Canterbury Provincial District Patriotic Societies, Funds and Committees of World War1

Patriotic societies were establishedm throughout the country from 1915, with locally organised committees collecting funds on behalf of sick and wounded soldiers and their dependants. It was estimated in 1916 that there were about 350 societies collecting war funds , 120 of them patriotic societies.
