We Want Your Stories! The Sinking of the Marquette 23 October 1915

Date published:

On 23 October 1915 the Marquette sank into the Aegean Sea taking 32 Kiwis down with her. For a nation still reeling from the heavy casualties at Gallipoli this was a significant blow.

The Canterbury 100 team will mark the 100th anniversary of the disaster with a display in the Canterbury Stories exhibit at the Air Force Museum, but we need your help. If you have a relative who was connected to the events on 23 October 1915 we’d like to hear your story. If you have a medal, nurse’s cape, letter or diary entry recounting the events we would love to see it.

Share your stories on the Canterbury 100 website and we just might use your family’s story in our display this October.
